For a component library

Publish a Storybook static build for review.

Storybook can produce a static build that reviewers open in a browser. HTMLShare can publish that already-built output as a preview link; it does not install Storybook, run the build, or replace your component workflow.

Static export contract

The static export contract

The useful handoff is the generated directory that Storybook can serve as static files.

Build

Run your normal Storybook build command and use the resulting static directory, commonly named storybook-static.

Package

Zip the output with index.html, manager/preview assets, stories, fonts, and any static files the build references.

Review

Open the link as a reviewer would and check navigation, component states, asset loading, and the scope of the snapshot.

Where the export helps

A browser link makes the next conversation concrete.

01

Design-system review

Give designers and product owners a link to browse component states without opening the source repository.

02

QA component pass

Share a static snapshot for checking labels, visual states, responsive behavior, and missing assets before release.

03

Client handoff

Show a partner the component vocabulary or approved patterns without exposing local build instructions.

Why this handoff works

Keep the useful part close to the artifact.

Keep the output portable

Review the generated Storybook site as ordinary browser files instead of asking every reviewer to install dependencies.

Separate build from sharing

Your team keeps ownership of Storybook configuration while HTMLShare handles the lightweight preview handoff.

Make the snapshot replaceable

Publish a new build for a new review round without treating every component snapshot as a production site.

A three-step workflow

From the right files to the right reaction.

  1. 01

Build Storybook locally or in CI

Use the command and configuration your component library already uses. HTMLShare does not execute the Storybook build.

  2. 02

    Zip the static directory

Package the generated output with index.html and all manager, preview, story, font, and image assets at the correct relative paths.

  3. 03

    Publish and inspect

Upload the ZIP, open the preview in a fresh browser, and share the link with the people reviewing the component library.

Know the boundary

A preview is useful because it is honest.

HTMLShare publishes browser-ready static output. Keep builds, source tools, private access, live data, and production operations in the systems built for them.

No native Storybook integration

This page describes publishing a static Storybook export. It does not imply a Storybook plugin, build service, or automatic synchronization.

Preview the generated snapshot

A static build may not include your source controls, live data, test runner, visual-regression service, or CI status.

Keep private stories out

Noindex is not access control. Remove secrets and sensitive client data, or use a system with the required permissions.

Storybook static build FAQ

Can HTMLShare build my Storybook project?

No. Build Storybook in your local or CI workflow first, then upload the generated static directory as a ZIP preview.

What should I upload?

Upload the complete Storybook static output, commonly storybook-static, with index.html and its generated manager, preview, story, and asset files.

Does this replace Chromatic or Storybook hosting?

No. HTMLShare is a lightweight preview publisher for an already-built static output. Keep visual regression, team permissions, and long-term component hosting in the tools built for them.

Ready for the next review

Put the current page in front of the right person.

Create a noindex preview link for the static HTML or ZIP project, then move approved work to production when it is ready.
